It’s time to load up the Beast

We call it the Beast. The Rad Mini Step-through 2 is our workhorse when it comes to provisioning or going to that far away store which would otherwise be out of reach. It is comfortable to ride, easy to use, and just outright fun. It can go 20 mph and go about 15 miles at top speed on a single charge. However, it is designed to let you help with a feature called petal assist. So if you don’t go top speed and you help out, you can extend the range. With the front rack, rear rack, plus backpack, its load capacity is significant. It takes a little getting use to riding it when it is loaded up because the feel is significantly different, but it can do it. The tires are wide with helps when the roads are not so good or even non-existent. Like many things, its strength is also a weakness. This bike weighs 67 pounds which makes it difficult to get on and off a dock and even more challenging to get in and out of a dinghy. We have done it but it is not easy. Even though this bike folds it still takes up a significant amount of space on the boat. We store in the saloon with a grill cover over it. We had this bike before owning Kindness. I really appreciate this bike but wish it was a little bit lighter. That being said we do maximize its use. We have also invested in a kryptonite lock in addition to a pad lock on a steel wire and we don’t leave it alone much when we are out.
