Southeastern Lighthouse
Southeastern Lighthouse Block Island is a historic lighthouse located on Block Island, Rhode Island. It was built in 1875 and is the only remaining lighthouse on the island. It stands 40 feet tall and is made of granite and brick with an octagonal cast iron lantern. The light from the lighthouse can be seen up to 14 miles away. It has been a landmark for generations of Block Islanders, and is a popular tourist destination for those visiting the island.
Mohegan Bluffs
The Mohegan Bluffs, known by the locals as Cliff Lookout, Block Island is a stunning piece of natural beauty located off the coast of Rhode Island. The area features a beautiful rocky seaside shoreline, a picturesque lighthouse, and lush green meadows that stretch over rolling hills. The views of the Atlantic Ocean and the windmills are incredible. The cliff walk down to the beach is a worthy endeavor with amazing scenery and natural beauty along with a few additions from visitors(pagodas).
Even a Small Zoo
The island also has a unique zoo, which was founded in 1972 by a local family. This zoo, known as the Block Island Wildlife Refuge, is home to a wide range of animals, from Kangaroos to lemurs, and is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of these animals. The refuge also helps to educate visitors about the species and their natural habitats, as well as providing a safe and welcoming environment for them to enjoy.

The night we arrived on Block Island there was a devastating fire that ultimately claimed the Harbourside Inn. The Harborside Inn was originally known as The Pequot House when it was built in 1879. It would later be renamed The Royal Hotel, and a few more names before officially becoming the Harborside Inn in the 1990s. By the early 1900s, the Inn had become a popular destination for visitors to the island, and its popularity continued to grow throughout the first half of the century. The Harbourside Inn was a beloved landmark on the island, the fire marshall deemed the building is unsafe and it will have to be torn down. The event was declared a disaster and many local business will be able to receive Federal aide to assist in the recovery process.
